#BlissDomCanada - Basking in the Awesome

@shasherslife & I at BlissDom Canada - picture by Shash

One week ago I was at BlissDom Canada. I am on staff and even though it was a working weekend I still had a wonderful time. The team of women I am on staff with are truly some of the most incredible and inspiring and delightful women I've ever had the privilege of knowing.

@BeyondCreatives, @PaulaBruno, @BarbaraJones, @zchamu, & me at the Microsoft opening party

My main role with BlissDom Canada was to work with the Community Leaders- another group of incredible people. I can't even begin to describe the awesome that was included in our group of community leaders this year.

And to top it all off I got to listen to a series of inspiring speakers that made me laugh and cry AND meet hundreds of wonderful bloggers from all across Canada.

So so good.

I can't tell you how much I needed those connections this month. I needed to be around amazing women who have survived seriously crappy stuff with grace and humour. I needed to hear their inspiring stories and bask in their awesome for awhile.

And I needed to laugh.

I REALLY needed to laugh.

Because life right now? Not so funny.

We have been struggling with things like Autism and Individual Education Plans and coming to grips with the fact that even though Aiden is in grade 5 - academically he is only in about grade 2 and how that will play out in the years to come since he seems to progress so very slowly. There is a lot to figure out as we plan for his future.

Owen has been put on medication for childhood depression and anxiety and every time I think about that it feels like being kicked in the stomach over and over and over again. I don't even have the words to tell you how sad I am that I have passed my mental illness issues on to my son.

Olivia is testing out her Diva-side lately and that just doesn't fly with me. She would very much like to be the Supreme Ruler of our household and spend her days bossing us all around and never listening and throwing tantrums when we don't obey... unfortunately for her none of us find that remotely cute and she doesn't get away with it. And I am convinced that she is purposely trying to drive her brothers crazy... and then she batts her eyelashes and flips her hair and expects them to forgive her right away. What she forgets is that they are immune to her charms.

The joys of siblings.

There are other things...big things like losing someone I love to cancer this week, and smaller things like that Owen is sick, Aiden's cough isn't going away, Aiden can't seem to grasp the concept of saying kind words about yourself and others and not threatening people, Owen wants to play with Aiden less and less because Aiden takes his anger out on him and that makes Aiden angrier and that makes Owen want to play with him less, Olivia can make a mess faster than any 5 year old I've ever known, the laundry pile is just ridiculous, the house refuses to clean itself and my work refuses to complete itself...

and I'm just not keeping up with everything.

You know that feeling?

So thank-you BlissDom Canada for giving me a brief respite from real life. Thank-you for the inspiration and the laughs and the delicious food and the wine- and most of all thanks for the wonderful friends. I love you!

@zchamu and I - this picture makes me teary every time I see it. <3

Almost all of these photos were taken by the BlissDom Canada official photog- Anna Epp. She clearly is amazing. You can see the rest of the photos she took for us on the BlissDom Canada photostream on Flickr

I'm reading your words, but they could have been said in my voice! My 6year old is the one on the spectrum, and takes all his anger out in his two year old brother (who, an also make a mess faster than anyone on the planet!) Hang in there, Mama. It's things like Blissdom that help remind us that the world really truly is full of awesome!
