Sunday Evenings

As most of you realize my husband is a pastor. And as many of you know MOST churches meet on Sunday mornings.

But not ours!

Our church meets on Sunday evenings ONLY. That's right, Sunday morning we are still lazing around in our jammies while most churches are having their services.

It took us a while to get used to having Sunday mornings free but you know what? I LOVE it!

Weekends are so much more relaxing now! We don't have to worry about the kids being out too late on Saturday nights because they can just relax on Sunday mornings. For example yesterday? We went and had a very enjoyable leisurely barbeque with our friends, got home late and then AIDEN slept in until 9:45 am. That is almost 10 people. My son? Has NEVER slept that long. Ever. In his whole life. And how tragic would it have been if I had to wake him up to go to church?

Now we have no rushing around like crazy people trying to get everyone looking presentable and out the door at the crack of dawn every Sunday morning. It is delightful.

Sunday actually FEELS like a day of rest now!

Pastor's are notoriously exhausted after preaching on Sundays and my pastor-husband is no exception. But now? Instead of him having to endure the whole rest of the day feeling wiped right out and me getting annoyed that he is so darn useless for most of the day- he can spend Sunday mornings and early afternoons enjoying his family then just completely veg after church is done on Sunday evening! Perfect!

Yes, the kids can be a little crazy at church because it coincides with the supper hour and keeps them out a little later than their regular bedtime... but my kids were pretty nutso Sunday mornings anyway!

So the point is- I LOVE having church on Sunday evenings.

Hooray for sleeping in! Also, hooray for doing things a little differently.

It's great to see that Sunday evenings are working well for you! I know that it is nice to be able to wake up refreshed and not hurried. I will join you in the Love Fest of Sunday evening services.

I concur with Colleen...that is a GREAT photo of Doug. It really captures him. Love it.

Our church service is in the evenings too. Part of me loves it and part of me doesn't (because of all the 'getting ready' for the next day I leave until the last minute). It's so great that Doug can just come home and not have the rest of the day to be exhausted. I totally don't miss the Sunday afternoons with a pastor-husband after church...they really do get so tired! Yeah for you guys!

We're a smallmission start up, so we borrow another congregation's building...on Saturday Nights. I agree...I love it, and Sunday is finally the day of rest I alwasy heard of. It is much easier to get kids to an evening service.

I too love this photo of Doug! I certainly also prefer an evening service to a morning one, but I also like the idea of having it Sat. eve freeing up Sunday to rest. Great post.

Never heard of this. We have early church. Sunday School at 8:45 and worship service at 10. Then that night Disciple Training at 5 and Evening Service at 6. Choir practice at 4. Long day on Sunday. I have done this for 50 years so I am used to it. I know of some who have Sunday morning and not Sunday night. I am Baptist. Whatever works we are all different people and Worshiping God works many ways. No two people are the same. I am glad this is working for you.
